En mycket fin och välbevarad tekanna från den Victorianska eran.Den är Engelsk och tillverkad av Burgess & Leigh och heter The Geisha Teapot. Tekannan är tillverkad i Staffordshire England ca 1893-1894. Företaget var välrenomerat och låg i Middleport Pottery Staffordshire. Det som utmärker den här kannan är både motivet och kanske främst formen på tekannan. Av vad jag förstår så var det de här företagets varumärke med de här ovanligt formade kannorna. Kannan rymmer ca 7,5 dl vilket jag anser är en normal storlek. Den är ca 17,5 cm hög med lock och mäter från pip till handtag 23 cm. Locket har som en liten säkerhetsanordning. För att ta av det måste man dra locket bakåt och likadant när man ska sätta på det måste man som skjuta in locket, bra så det inte faller av så lätt. För att vara så gammal så är den i det närmaste i perfekt skick. Det finns ingen krackelering i glasyren, sprickor eller några små skador. Det enda jag kan se är att det är lite putsskador på förgyllningen vid nederkanten, i övrigt är den perfekt. Jag tror inte att den någonsin har använts. Den här kannan är en riktig liten dyrgrip och mycket ovanlig, särskilt i det här skicket.
Burgess & Leigh oftast mest känt som Burleigh startades 1851, det är känt som ett historiskt företag, kända för sitt tradiotionella stengods, serviser och sitt ikoniska blå-vita porslin. Som alla andra gamla fabriker har det gått igenom många förändringar men var familjeägt ända fram till 1999 då det köptes upp. Företaget är fortfarande verksamt och är idag det enda företaget i världen som använder en mycket gammal teknik med mönster under glasyren. Antique Teapot from Burgess & Leigh No40
A very nice and well-preserved teapot from the Victorian era. It is English and made by Burgess & Leigh and is called The Geisha Teapot. The teapot is made in Staffordshire England around 1893-1894. The company was well-known and was located in Middleport Pottery Staffordshire. What distinguishes this pot is both the motif and perhaps mainly the shape of the teapot. From what I understand, it was this company’s trademark with these unusually shaped pots. The pot holds about 7.5 dl which I consider to be a normal size. It is about 17.5 cm high with lid and measures 23 cm from spout to handle. The lid has a small safety device. To take it off you have to pull the lid back and the same when you want to put it on you have to push the lid in, good so it doesn’t fall off so easily. For being so old it is in almost perfect condition. There is no cracking in the glaze, cracks or any small damage. The only thing I can see is that there is some polishing damage to the gilding at the bottom edge, otherwise it is perfect. I do not think it has ever been used. This jug is a real little gem and very rare, especially in this condition.
Burgess & Leigh most often known as Burleigh was founded in 1851, it is known as a historic company, known for its traditional stoneware, tableware and its iconic blue and white porcelain. Like all other old factories it has gone through many changes but was family owned until 1999 when it was bought up. The company is still in business and is today the only company in the world that uses a very old technique with patterns under the glaze. The company can be visited.
